JEAN BOONSTRA
Jean Boonstra is associate speaker for the Voice of Prophecy and executive producer and departmental director for Discovery Mountain.
Jean has a passion for sharing Jesus with families—particularly with women and children. As a university student, she attended a series of evangelistic meetings in Victoria, BC, Canada and fell in love with Jesus. Since that time she has followed God wherever He leads. In addition to her work at Voice of Prophecy she is a student at Andrew’s University and nearing completion of her Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry.
Each week, Jean and her Discovery Mountain team release two faith-filled Discovery Mountain audio episodes. Discovery Mountain launched in 2017 and began as a weekly program for families of any background. The program has been widely well-received and in 2021 the Discovery Mountain Club was created. The Club provides additional Discovery Mountain content for our Mountaineers—Club subscribers. Club programs include Jake’s Take: An Oddcast You Can Trust, Creation Nuggets, and Bedtime Bible Stories. The Discovery Mountain flagship program and club programs continue to have one mission–to share Jesus with children and families of all backgrounds, whether they’re regular church-goers, or brand new to their faith journey.
Jean is the creator and primary author of the Discovery Mountain programs, and the narrator of the flagship program. She has authored two faith adventure Discovery Mountain books that young readers (and educators) enjoy. Mission: Trust in God and Mission: Forgiveness. In these books the reader is the main character and visits the town of Discovery Mountain where they decide how they will exercise their faith, and what will happen next in the story.
Discovery Mountain is a key resource in the Voice of Prophecy’s evangelism cycle and part of the Discover Centers line up of resources for churches. Jean executive produced Rescued: Safe in Jesus is a Discovery Mountain Vacation Bible School (VBS) program. This full five day VBS program tells the story of God’s dramatic plan to rescue Noah and his family and features video stories with Discovery Mountain characters, and original music with stunning sing-a-long videos.
Jean believes in listening to feedback from parents and educators about how Discovery Mountain can help them to minister to the young people in their lives. In 2022 educators requested a virtual week of prayer. Jean responded by creating five engaging sermons for Flyover Faith, a Discovery Mountain virtual Week of Prayer, released in 2023.
Jean created a series of faith-building Discovery Mountain Expedition Bible Guides. Each of the 14 guides encourages youth aged 8-12 to study the lessons of the Bible and deepen their faith, all while enjoying a summer camp story with some of their favorite Discovery Mountain characters.
Jean is a frequent speaker at events and women’s retreats across North America and Europe. She enjoys sharing her personal testimony and bringing to life the stories of God’s faithful people in Scripture and history.
Prior to coming to the Voice of Prophecy in 2014, Jean served as the quality assurance editor at the Adventist Review, and as an associate producer at Hope Channel International. In the years prior to that she served as children’s ministries director at It Is Written, during which time she launched the My Place With Jesus ministry.
Jean, and her husband Shawn, have three wonderful adult children—daughters Natalie and Naomi, and son-in-law Devin. Jean and Shawn make their home in Colorado where she enjoys swimming, hiking, and knitting.
